I am bliss

My body has embodied the heat of summer in the tropics. Non-stop sweat comes from all sorts of places as I sit on the rocks in stillness, lie in bed at night, work at my desk, walk the dogs; all proof that I am purging. It is a cleansing and releasing of not only toxins and heat, but old beliefs. The stories are over. My central nervous system is recalibrating in a way that feels fresh and revived. Joy is seeping in, magic is aglow, my heart is softening. A new page, chapter, course.

And à la Griswold fashion- my family and I are about to embark on our own European vacation. St. Sunshine will be putting her posts on hold until she returns, but I wanted to leave a little something that will hopefully give you a taste of St. Thomas' summer delights, and maybe inspire you to seek out your own pockets of wonder, wherever you are.

As I sweat myself free of recent events, I lean into light and vastness, heart connections and deep conversations, giggles and awe. Recently, I heard the words, "I am bliss" in a podcast. I don't recall where or when I heard it, but it stuck. With this idea that we have a choice in what we want to be, at any moment, today I choose bliss.

“I am bliss”

Says the green throated carib hummingbird who drinks sugar water

hanging between the palms.

“I am bliss”

Says the cosmically magenta hibiscus as she shines her crown,

waving beside a telephone pole.

“I am bliss”

Says the gliding pelican off of Tropaco Point,

inches from the sea's surface.

“I am bliss”

Says the box turtle working his way through the yard

to find shelter from the summer sun.

“I am bliss”

Says the diver who touches the sandy bottom in the deep blue of Waterlemon Bay,

savoring the dark quiet of his breathlessness.

“I am bliss”

Says the gardener who finds shade under the banana palms,

smiling as cool water hits his throat.

“I am bliss”

Says the little boy whose head is sweetly cradled by his dad’s safe hands

in the breezy waters of Brewers Bay.

“I am bliss”

Says the heart that stretches, reaches, pumps and feels

all these blessings collide and melt into

the more, more, more.

With a sweaty chin and joyful tears,

St.Sunshine
