Collective Grace

My apologies, friends. I wrote my post over the weekend and as I went to publish it, my wifi cut out and all of my efforts were erased. In attempts to share more regularly, I give you a poem instead.

With love & plan b's,

St. Sunshine

Collective Grace

She flits above us all

my seat on the balcony

Her vivid darkness shines

against the church’s white ceiling

At first glance, I delight

One of God’s creatures

a joyous visit

in this holy hour

Delight turns

I am a witness,

as is the little girl

in the green dress

We see together

the confusion

the limits

the hollowing weariness

I want to stop the service

to stop the fans

to pray for our sacred guest

to become air and help her fly

A congregation,

of friends and strangers,

our combined hearts

can prove love’s miracle

Her wings aren’t broken,

only tired

waiting for the right moment

catching her breath

I keep quiet

my faith rises

and meets her stillness,

a branch on which to wait

The pews will soon empty

The windows left open

a collective grace in the making

will soon set her free
